for the record, i think putting lettuce on a meatball sandwich is completely bogus.
i just thought it looked more interesting that way.
xo!
buy some prints(of other stuff)!
i’m sorry i’ve been away, i’ve been busy preparing for cinco de mayo.
while you’re waiting, why not get your print on?
the questions i get asked most often are:
you make small food and then you take pictures of it? um, why?
and
what do you make the food out of?
the answer to the latter is: mostly it’s polymer clay, popularly known by the brand name fimo. you may recognize polymer clay as a material which was all the rage about 15 years ago. it was used to make everything from the beads on the sweet ass necklace you wore to that dave matthew’s concert in ’94, to the lovely and intricate adornment on the stem of your “tobacco” pipe in college.
after i make the basic shape of the food with the fimo, i add depth and detail with chalk pastels, usually scraped with a pin into a powder which i then brush on with a little paintbrush. then it’s textured, cooked in the toaster oven, and when it’s cooled any matte or shiny varnish is applied. sometimes i end up just using real food, like the flour on that english muffin up there.
oh, and i make small food and then take pictures of it because i can.
HEY! did you get your print yet? don’t worry, i will still sell you one!
i made this cheeseburger for a friend for her birthday. it gave me an opportunity to work on my lettuce technique and i think it turned out pretty well!
this little guy has such a loving home, the owner recently told me she might be suffering from this.
although the cheeseburger print is not currently for sale, why don’t you pick up one of it’s little friends right here?
in order to attain perfect ham slice edges, i up and made a whole damn tiny ham just to slice it up.
i probably should have taken a picture of it.
